Escaping a little from the tradition of many museums spread throughout the city,
the idea of "Museu de Arte Contemporânea" was constructed based in the fact that memorials must have a dynamic and appealing structure to
divulge art works. Inaugurated i1988, December, it started its activities with “1ª Bienal de Artes de Goiás” and today keeps around 500 works,
among sculptures, paintings, drawings, reproductions and pictures, acquired by means of donations of artists, auctions or bought in particular
institutions.
"Museu de Arte Contemporânea" is located at the mezzanine of “Parthenon Center”
building, it’s place of all kinds of shows produced by institutions like “Escola de Artes Visuais” and “Balé do Estado”, which earned an
auditorium baptized with the name of one of the most expressive artists of Goiás: Octo Marques.
The public can also use the library of “MAC” for researches, where there are more
than 700 volumes, among books, magazines and catalogues. The museum also offers art courses and video and art exhibitions from artists of other
countries, promoting a cultural exchange with the support of embassies and consulates.
