| Iguassu Falls - Bertoni Harbor |
The Scientific Museum and Harbor "Moisés Bertoni" are located in the middle of the
forest, on the paraguayan margin of Paraná River. It’s the house where swiss scientist Moisés Santiano Bertoni, who dedicated his life to the
study and publication of botanic, zoology, entomology and local biology books, lived.
The only way to arrive there is by boat. Embarkation with capacity to about 50
people departs daily from Meira Harbor in Foz do Iguaçu. During the ride, tourists may appreciate the gorgeous natural landscape and also the
"Espaço das Américas" and “Marco das Três Fronteiras”, until the arrival in Bertoni Harbor. After a little walk on a track, tourists arrive at
the museum.
By the time he died, Bertoni left a vast collection of insects, animal skulls,
snakes and a huge bibliographic heritage, including magazines from that time to scientific thesis of various places from the world. Although
living isolated, Bertoni kept contact with several geographic, cultural and scientific institutes of Brazil. Just to know the importance of the
place, the Scientific Museum and Harbor “Moisés Bertoni” is sponsored by Geneva’s Museum. |
