| Iguassu Falls - Others - Bartolomeu Mitre High School |
This school was the pioneer in the history of education in Foz do Iguaçu, being
founded in 1927, what made it a historic mark. At the beginning, it received the name of Caetano Munhoz da Rocha, the governor of that epoch.
The building was situated at Praça Getúlio Vargas, next to where the Post Office building is now.
The high school was installed in 1927 November and began to work at 1928 January
15th. In 1952, it was transferred to Rua Jorge Schimmelpfeng, name of the city’s mayor during the epoch of the scholar group creation.
With the building’s change there was also a name change, to Bartolomeu Mitre, name of an argentinean general who commanded troops during
Paraguay’s War in the name of "Tríplice Aliança".
In 2001 January 1st, the “Praça das Nações” (Nation’s Square) was inaugurated in
front of the school, valorizing the place and serving also as a space for events to the population.
