 Iguassu Falls - Typical Food

Foz do Iguaçu is one of the most visited places of Brazil. Therefore, it has innumerous establishments with international cuisine quality, not to mention that menu and price varies according to tastes and money to spend. The ethnical mix among the South America’s population is, in a major way, responsible for the gastronomic and cultural diversity found in the city.

Otherwise, the typical food of Foz do Iguaçú has the most common ingredient in the triple frontier region: fishes. Pirá de Foz, as the typical dish of the city is known, is basically made of mandioca and surubim’s meat or dourado, two fish kinds very common in Paraná River. The food’s visual also reveals the indian influence on the local cuisine, since "pirá", in guarani dialect, means fish and mandioca couldn’t lack in the Indians nutrition.

Other ingredients of Pirá de Foz’s recipe are vegetables like carrots, spinach and pimiento. To go along, the ideal is a glass of wine. It’s possible to taste the food in most of the city’s restaurants, especially in hotels.
