Ilhabela - Churches - Armação Church

The Armação Church in Ilhabela, has a mystical meaning for the residents and tourists. The church was built by the fishermen of the island and has a colonial architecture that charms the tourists. When it was built, the Armação Village was beginning to develop economically. One of the things that favored the growth of the local economy and the district was exactly the whole hunting, since Ilhabela was considered one of the best places for hunting this type of animals.

The church was always considered to be the second house of the fishermen because in the beginning it was used as a shelter for the people. Little by little, the church was transformed into a ritual in the lives of the fishermen and residents of the area. It is through the church that they get their faith and protection. Before saling, they take part of the mass, pray and then the priest goes with the fishermen to bless the boats that go out to the sea. Near the church, the visitors can enjoy the bars and restaurants.
