| Ilhéus - Historical Buildings - Ilhéus Hotel |
The Ilhéus Hotel is the largest symbol of the wealth of the cacao farmers. It was
built in 1930 by Colonel Misael Tavares after the Brazilian government created the law that exempted buildings with more than three floors from
paying taxes.
The building is also considered an historical relic because it was the just to be
built in the interior of the northeast, besides having an elevator that works until today.
The reason for the construction of such a grand building was the wish of Colonel
Misael Tavares, the largest cacao producer of the region, in putting Ilhéus among the largest cities of the world. A curiosity is that the farmer
was a great admirer of the French Cuisine and because of this, the menu of the restaurant gives priority to the typical French dishes.
Until today the Ilhéus Hotel receives tourists who visit the city and choose
establishment because it was mentioned in the books by the anther Jorge Amado as well. Located in the Center of Ilhéus, it offers a view of the
historical Center as well as of the sea. |
