São Francisco Church |
The church is dated from 1779 and has sandstone engravings and foliage with
stylized flowers that get mixed with other typical details of the baroque style. The internal part of the temple has a ceiling painted with
drawings that illustrate the history of São Francisco.
The glazed tiles that cover the sanctuary are from Portugal, forming panels that
ascend to Egypt’s history. Another prominence is the pulpit, made of golden carvings with indian influences. The courtyard has an Access stairway
to the other floors, with banisters sculpted in stone, art known as "mascarão".
The restoration of São Francisco Church started in 1979 to house Museu de Artes
Sacras (Museum of Sacred Arts) and today is in the list of protected patrimonies of IPHAN. |
