Redenção Palace |
The construction was made by Jesuits who arrived at Paraíba in 1586 accompanied by
Martim Leitão. The building initially served as residence for devotees and missionaries, besides the “Inacianos”, members of “Companhia de Jesus”,
founded by Inácio Loyola in 1540.
The house belonged to an architectonical set formed by a chapel, school and convent,
subsequently used as residence of Captain Moraes in 1771, along with Major Captain Jerônimo José de Mello e Castro.
Rendenção Palace already housed many organs of the public administration and today
it houses the seat of the State Government. The house was registered as State Patrimony by Iphaep in 1980, August.
