 João Pessoa - Areia Vermelha

Areia Vermelha

Areia Vermelha

The isle has a curiosity that captivates residents as well as tourists. During certain periods of the year, the sand becomes reddish due to substances expelled by seaweeds and other components from the sea.

It is 2km long and protected by a reef barrier, making the sea to be calmer at the seaside. Visitors are taken to the isle by boats. The visitation to the isle is allowed only during 20 days per month, due to the tides. During the most high season, Areia Vermelha receives about 2000 embarkations per weekend.
