Lages - Church - Franciscano Convent and Chapel

Franciscano Convent and Chapel

Franciscano Convent and Chapel

A set of great architectonical notoriety in Lages, the chapel and the convent were constructed by german friar Rogério Neuhaus. The convent was inaugurated in 1897, while the chapel had its works finished only in 1932.

In 1934, the friar died of cancer, what gave him the fame of saint among the residents of the city. Until now, its mortal remains, stored in the chapel, generate commotion and are considered faith objects among the devotees. The building was restored in 2001, keeping alive part of the religious history of Lages.
