Lages - Museum - Nereu Ramos Museum

Nereu Ramos Museum

Nereu Ramos Museum

Nereu Ramos Museum was opened to register the history of the only “catarinense” (person born in Santa Catarina) born in Lages, to assume the post of President of Brazil. The building houses a collection with photos, personal objects and even the mortal remains of the former president.

Visitors of other regions and residents of the city use to frequent the place to know a little more about the personal and professional life of the politician that governed Brazil during the period of 1955 November to 1956 January 31st. Nereu Ramos was president of the Senate when assumed the presidency, after a coup led by General Henrique Teixeira Lott.

He passed the post to Juscelino Kubitschek three months after and assumed “Ministério da Justiça” (Ministry of Justice). He died on an aerial accident, next to Curitiba.
