Historical Center of Lençóis |
Lençóis is the main support spot for those visiting “Chapada Diamantina”. But
tourists don’t get disappointed is adds at least one day to the tour to know the city itself, whose historic center, full of well preserved
buildings from the 19th century, is registered as National Art and Historic Patrimony.
Most of the bars, restaurants and inns are installed in old buildings. Try “godó
de banana”, one of the main typical dishes of the region. At downtown, there’s also “Casa de Cultura Afrânio Peixoto”, which belonged to the
writer born in Lençóis, where documents and photos are on display.
Short walks on the city surroundings are good to prepare tourists for the wonders
they will find at “Chapada Diamantina”. An old mining site gave origin to the settlement. “Serrano” is today called as beach and its craters
serve as natural pools for tourists. And those who think that Lençóis has no nightlife are quite mistaken. At “Rua da Pedras” and “Praça das
Nagôs” there’s liveliness till late night.
