Historic Center of Lençóis |
Registered as National Patrimony by IPHAN, the historic center of Lençóis surged
in the middle of the 19th century, with the diamond mining. Most of the buildings were constructed during that period.
The houses are small, usually with two floors. In the upper floor there was the
residence and the ground floor was used as commercial establishment. The streets are irregular, interpolated by public squares. The main
materials used in the works were adobe and masonry.
In contrary to other brazilian historic cities, especially those from Minas
Gerais, in Lençóis there are fewer religious monuments and churches. The main prominences are the same peculiar style and the strong colors of
the traditional houses. |
