The cathedral carries the name of the patroness of the city and had its foundation
stone placed in 1840. However, at that time, there were no funds to finish the construction of the church, the project was suspended for almost
nine years until the conclusion several years later. The cathedral received decoations in the ceiling, lateral alters with images of São Sebastião
and São Miguel and even some pieces of sacred art that came from Portugal. To increase the splendor of the Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres Metropolitan
Cathedral, there is a lovely image of the Santíssimo Sacramento on the principal alter.
