At first sight,
the customhouse calls attention because of its eclectic style of architecture.
However, the most interesting is to discover that the building is considered to
be one of the first prefabricated constructions of the world. The prefabricated
blocks were brought from England and were made basically from brick were then
fit in one in another
Next to the
customhouse is the tower of the Guarda Moria, which has a beacon at the top, and
like the customhouse, was also built with material brought from Europe. The two
buildings were inaugurated in 1906 and are part of the architectonic groups of
Seaport of Manaus, and was recorded by the National Historic and Artist Heritage
in 1987.
