| Manaus - Parks - Botanic Garden |
A part of the natural diversity, safeguarded in the major part of the 100 km² of
the Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve, may already be appreciated for those who are in Manaus. The Botanical Gardens of the city is, in fact, a small
part of the protected area, with plants, trees and typical jungle animals.
Right at the park’s entrance there is a monument, which represents the different
types of woods found in the Amazon, and a vivarium of scions, with the place’s native plants. The public also finds inside the Botanical Gardens
a complete library specialized in literature about botany and environment, besides of a pavilion for events and lectures about nature.
But, to really know the Botanical Gardens, you have to walk. The visitors follow
through uncountable trails opened in the woods, totalizing more than 3 km. During the walk, it’s possible to watch animals that, even in danger
of extinction, may be easily found walking by the reserve, like macaws, toucans, armadillos and jaguars.
The Botanical Gardens also shelters projects that have the protection of the
environment and give incentive to the education through courses as objectives. Those who participate learn craftsmanship techniques. The youths
are trained to work as guides and accompany tourists. There’s W.C. and restaurants in loco.
