Approximately 450 animals of more than 60 different species contribute to make
the Manaus Zoo one of the biggest attractions of the city. Kept by the Brazilian Army, the 30000 m2 Zoo belongs to CIGS – Centro de
Instrução e Guerra na Selva (Center of Instruction and Jungle War) – and also helps in the formation of soldiers and combatants.
Among the main attractions there are the jaguars and the black panthers, besides
the enormous sucuri (brazilian anaconda) 6 meters long. More than just watching animals, the CIGS Zoo visitors are invited to attend lectures
about the preservation of environment, fauna and flora.
Nowadays, the CIGS Zoo receives an average of four thousand visitors per month.
