| Manaus - Tours - The Encounter of the Waters |
You can't visit Manaus and miss the chance to see the "Encontro das
Águas" (meeting of the waters) of the Negro and Solimões rivers. It is an impressing ride, where the dark water of the Negro river meet
the clear water of the Solimões river. The rivers meet 10 km from Manus a follow, side by side, for about 6 km until they meet to form the
Amazonas river, the largest drain off in the world.
The "Meeting of the Waters" can also be observed from the air, when
the outing is done by plane. However, the majority of the tourists arrive by boat. The boats leave from the "Porto Flutuante"
located on the Ponta Negra beach and follow the Negro river until meets the Solimões river. On the way, the tourists can see the city of
Manaus and its historical buildings without mentioning the natural landscape that can be seen during the ride.
When the boat finally arrives at the place where the rivers meet, it begin to
navigate on the border line of the waters. The Negro and Solimões rivers aren't united imediately due to the difference in density and
temperatures of the two rivers besides the velocity of its currents being distinct as well.
The "Meeting of the Waters" is an outing that cannot be missed
because there are only rare opportunities to see such an impressing phenomenon, capable of putting the people in direct contact with one of
the greatest spectacles of nature. |
