| Manaus - Tours - Anavilhanas Archipelago |
Only 100 km from Manaus, in the Negro river, is the second largest groups of
Fluvial islands in the world: The Archipelago of Anavilhanas. There are around 400 islands covered with virgin forests that hide priceless
natural treasures.
As they are so long and straight, the islands that make up the archipelago are
like scribbles of land in the immensity of the water, looking more like a gigantic tangle of chains. Since it is an extremely preserved place,
the archipelago is inhabited by a large quantity of species of birds, especially the macaws. The region is also one of the few places where the
manatees can live without having to constantly flee from the threat of the hunter, dividing the space with porpoises, turtles and another 500
varieties of fish.
The best time to visit the Anavilhana Archipelago is during the dry season, which
goes from May until October. With the water at a very low level, the nature reveals beaches with very white sand, confirmed by the dark water of
the Negro river. Between November to April, the floody season, more than half the island are covered by the water which forces the animals to
search for shelter in the higher parts of the islands.
Since the beginning of the 80's, the archipelago had more than 350 thousand
hectares and 130 km of its extension was transformed into the Ecologic Station. The environmental preservation guaranteed by law helped to
maintain the begetation of the island extremely well cared for. To reach the place from Manaus, it is necessary to navegate on the Negro river
between 3 to 4 hours because everything depends on the potency of the boat.
Curiously, the largest fluvial archipelago of the world is also located in Brazil,
