| Manaus - Tours - Amazon River |
The Amazon is the biggest river in the world in terms of water volume and flows
into the Atlantic an average of 200 millions of liters per second, per day. Just to have a notion of this quantity, you just have to know that
1-day flow of the Amazon is equivalent to 1-year flow of Thames, in London.
Although half of its length is in brazilian territory, the Amazon is born in the
Lauri Lake, in the Peruvian Andes. Before entering Brazil, the Amazon also goes through a short passage of Colombia. It’s the 2nd
longest river of the world, with 6577 km, only behind of the Nile.
With margins that vary from 6 to 10 km of width, it is exposed to some peculiar
phenomena. The most popular is the Pororoca, a succession of waves caused by the encounter of the waters of the Amazon and the Atlantic. The
Amazon basin has approximately 3000 (three thousand) different fish species.
To know the Amazon, tourists use to take fluvial and ecologic tours through the
river. The routes have a duration varying from 4 to 7 days. |
