São Pedro dos Clérigos Basilica |
With strong italian influence, São Pedro dos Clérigos Basilica was built in 1752
egg shaped. There’s a panel from Mestre Athaíde, a cedar altar and lime stone front. Surrounded with palm trees on a belvedere, it offers
panoramic view of Mariana.
The author is unknown and its construction was stagnated during about one century,
but it meets perfectly the landscape set of the place. The sacred art patrimony was transferred to Museu Arquidiocesano.
