Igreja de São Francisco de Assis |
The church is considered one of the most precious works of the rococo period in
Brazil, with two great artists as responsible: Antonio Francisco Lisboa, also known as Aleijadinho, and Manuel da Costa Athaíde.
The walls were painted by Mestre Athaíde, as well as the ceiling of the sacristy
located at praça Minas Gerais. One of the curiosities that the building carries is the numbers painted in the floor, indicating that devotees of
Ordem Terceira were buried. The building also has a medallion made by Aleijadinho, crystal chandeliers of the 18th century and a
Portuguese crown.
