Natal - Historical Building - Coluna Capitolina Del Pretti

Coluna Capitolina Del Pretti

Coluna Capitolina Del Pretti

Located at Praça Carlos Gomes, the sculpture was offered as a present by Italiano Dictator Benito Mussolini in 1931. And, exactly for this reason, “Coluna Capitolina Del Pretti” was, for a long time, target of several critics of communist militants of Natal.

It’s considered today as one of the most important pieces present in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, since it’d have belonged to the ruins of the temple of Jupiter, called “Monte Capitólio”, located in ancient Rome. The sculpture also serves as homage to aviator Carlo Del Pretti, who flew from Rome to Touros, a city close to Natal.
