Alberto Maranhão Theatre |
Built in 1898, Alberto Maranhão Theatre is registered as State Historic and Art
Patrimony. Following the same style of the French construction of the end of 18th century, the building uses Belgium ceramics to
cover the access flooring to the building and corridors.
In the middle of 1910, the building was named as “Carlos Gomes”. The doors were
adorned with sculptures that decorated the facade. Some time later, the theater suffered a reform where it gained another floor and great iron
gates brought from France, the same as the counters.
In 1957, the place received the name of Alberto Maranhão Theatre, by orders of the
mayor of Natal at that time, Djalma Maranhão. This way, some other modifications were made in the building, which received an air conditioner
system. Years later, the responsibility of the theater passed to “Fundação José Augusto”. That occasioned more modifications in the building,
like the construction of dressing rooms, noble hall, courtyard, reforms in the seats and stage.
