The first church built in Natal, Nossa Senhora da Apresentação Matrix, was
erected in 1619, but, ended up damaged due to the Dutch invasion, in 1633. The building was definitely rebuilt only in 1672, by Padre Leonardo
Tavares.
In 1976, the major chapel crumbled, obligating the church to pass through another
reform, this time earning new flooring and a bell, which used to ring at 9PM, annunciating the curfew. It was in this construction, which also
served as cemetery for traditional families, the first mass of the city occurred. The ground zero of Natal is in front of the church, in the
center of the public square.
