Câmara Cascudo Memorial |
The memorial preserved the history of Luís Câmara Cascudo, keeping some spaces
that tell the course of the artist. One of these areas is the library with more than 10000 volumes approaching several themes, like biographies,
romance and folklore. The collection is considered rare for having books of the past century in many different languages. Besides books, there’s
a series of personal letters of Câmara Cascudo, available for reading. The senders vary from Mário de Andrade, Monteiro Lobato, Carlos Drummond
and Gilberto Freyre.
The rooms keep permanent exhibitions, with two of them displaying photos that
show the most important moments of the writer’s life. In other sections, bills honoring Cascudo and themes used as study objects are exhibited
to the public, like “bonecos de mamulengo”, craftsmanship pieces and religious elements. Built in 1875, the building formerly hosted “Tesouraria
da Fazenda”.
