“Barreira do Inferno” is a rocket launch center. Created in 1965, the center was
constructed to the south of Natal; 25km away from the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, in the city of Parnamirim, on a strategic region, of low
pluviometer level, with favorable winds and close to the Equator line.
The objective of “Barreira do Inferno” is to launch and track rockets, besides
making tests and experiences to the brazilian aerospace development. Visitors can know some sophisticated equipments like tracking and telemetric
radars, a technology largely used in automobile sports. It’s interesting to book guided visits. It closes at weekends.
The name “Barreira do Inferno” was used due to red “falésias” which surround the
region. At dawn, when lightened by the sun, they seem like on fire.
