Cajueiro de Pirangi |
Considered the biggest cashew tree of the world, also included in the Guinness
Book, “Cajueiro de Pirangi” was planted in 1888 by a local fisherman called Luiz Inácio de Oliveira. The legend says that the responsible for
the 7500m2 tree died at the age of 93 years, under its shadows.
The astonishing growth of the tree is attributed to an anomaly that makes its
branches to grow towards the ground, instead of going in the opposite direction. When they reach the ground, they start to create new roots,
making the tree to enlarge.
During the harvest time, visitors can taste its fruits, more than 80000. There are
guides that speak english and spanish and there’s a support infrastructure, which count with restrooms, souvenir stores and snack kiosks.
