Casa de Guignard Museum |
Situated at praça Antonio Dias, the house, inaugurated in 1987, comports the
patrimony of artist Alberto da Veiga Guignard, who went to Minas Gerais through invitation of Juscelino Kubitscheck, at that time, mayor of
Belo Horizonte, in 1944. The mayor’s intention was to develop Escola de Belas Artes (School of Fine Arts) with the help of Guignard, making
him a reference to the people of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.
Alberto da Veiga Guignard carries influence of Rembrandt and da Vinci on his
works, associating the traditional painting with contemporaneous art. He was born in Nova Friburgo, in 1898, and died in Belo Horizonte, in
1962.
