Museum of Oratório |
The museum was opened to house items that illustrate the faith of the residents,
not only from Minas Gerais, but from several parts of Brazil. The pieces are from an epoch when most of the people lived in farms and other
far places, where masses happened twice a year, ministered by priests passing by the region. Then, small oratories, a small and portable altar
that allowed devotees to make their pray.
The serene atmosphere suggest to visitors part of the history of a time where
faith seemed stronger. It stays in evidence when carefully looked. Through careful traces done in the oratories of many different styles, it’s
possible to see that faith and respect for the religion were present not only in the work, but also in the artist.
There are many kinds of oratories, making clear the social differences at that
time. The most detailed and adorned ones belonged to richer families.
