 Ouro Preto - Carnival

Carnival in Ouro Preto is famous throughout Brazil for its excitement and variety of carnival groups and people. The most traditional are the independent groups, which take to the streets critics about the government and actual political situation with a good sense of humor.

There are also groups that revive the 20’s, groups that promote social works and other that prestige old friends or personalities of the city. Now, the student groups are usually formed by students of the many scholar institutions of the city.

The municipal government offers the necessary infrastructure, so people car party with safety, annually distributing flyers with hints for those who want to celebrate the holiday. It’s advisable to wear light clothes, small bags/purses and bring sweaters, since the temperature uses to fall at late afternoon.
