Recife - Churches - Nossa Senhora do Carmo Basilic

In the year of 1687, the Boa Vista's Palace, constructed by Maurício de Nassau, was donated to the Carmelite Order for the construction of the Basilica and Convent. The church is in baroque style and has works of notable sacred and artistic expression, with a golden altar with the image in natural size of Recife's patron saint, Our Lady Carmo. In the convent, Frei Caneca did his religious votes and was ordered priest. It is presumed that he is buried in it, in uncertain place.

Address: Avenida Dantas Barreto, no number - at the Carmo Square.
