 Recife - Churches - São Bento Monastery

This monastery is particularly famous due to the fact that São Bento is, at the same time, the patron saint of the Abbey and the monastery. It was built in the 16th century and is the second Benedictine monastery on Brazilian Grounds. On its façade, a coat of armor and the steeple, which dates back to the 18th century. The church has a touch of sophisticated baroque architecture, thoroughly decorated with wood and gold. It’s one of the richest in Olinda. On the throne in the main altar is the statue of São Bento.
