SURFING

Because of the geography of the reefs that race the outline of the coast along the Pernambuco beaches, the State is an excellent Brazilian surfing point. There are beaches whose waves reach almost 2m in height. The best time of the year for surfing in the Northeast is during the winter in the months of June, July and August. The winds aren't as strong during this season due to the rains and this lack of wind is great for the sport. For this reason, it is also a good idea to surf either in the early morning or late afternoon.
The best beaches for surfing in Pernambuco are in Maracaípe, Cupe and Gaibu, which have been home to stages of international tournaments, like the World Qualifying Series and the Hang Loose Pro Quest. Another sought-after surfing point is the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, which includes some of the most favorable beaches for practicing the sport.
