YACHTING

Sailing began to take hold in Brazil in the 1940s, though the first Yacht club in the country goes back to 1906. At that time, boats were imported from Europe. It was only with the outbreak of the First World War, which made importing difficult, that an interest emerged in developing typically Brazilian boating. The Hagen Sharpie was the first and brought which it an innovation: the V-shaped bottom that facilited amateur production.
Currently, Pernambuco has two yachting clubs, the Cabanga Yacht Club and the Yacht Club of Itamaracá. The State was home to the Optimist 2002 Brazilian Championship. It is also the scene of the only ocean regatta in Brazil, held annually in the month of September, leaving from Boa Viagem Beach and arriving at Boldró Beach in Fernando de Noronha.
