| Rio de Janeiro - Others - Municipal Theatre |
The architecture of the Rio de Janeiro’s Municipal Theater was inspired in the
Paris’s Opera and all used material in the work was imported. The paintings and sculptures that adorn the show hall, the facade and the internal
areas were especially created to the theater.
Eliseu D'Angelo Visconti painted the theater’s stage curtain in Paris, especially
to the inauguration. The painting’s theme is "A Influência das Artes na Civilização" (The influence of the arts in the civilization)
and illustrate some of the main artists that existed, among painters, writers and composers, without counting the drawings of urban landmarks of
Paris, like the Triumph Arc, and some artistic symbols of Ancient Greece.
The inauguration was in 1909, but only from the 30’s that the Guanabara Theater
started to have its own artists, like the orchestra, the choral and the ballet. As a matter of fact, it’s the only institution to maintain three
artistic companies at the same time.
