Sabará - Historical Building - Borba Gato House

Borba Gato House

Despite the name, Borba Gato never lived in the house. Built in the middle of the 18th century, the origin of the name comes from the streets where the small palace is located, in homage to the explorer who found gold mines.

Besides serving as residence for families, it also worked and lodge, between 1850 and 1860, and school, between 1871 and 1896. It’s a construction made of mud and wood, being noteworthy from the neighbor buildings.

Since the beginning of the 90’s, it houses Centro de Memória do Museu do Ouro, one of the Gold Museum nucleus, gathering historic documents of the 18th and 19th century.
