TAM Transportes Aereos Regionais
S.A. had 55% of the regional air market, serving 39 Brazilian cities. From
its base at Congonhas airport in the city of Sao Paulo, the company serviced
the major cities in Sao Paulo state and the country's key economic centers.
It also operated the TAM Super Shuttle between the cities of Sao Paulo and
Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Porto Alegre. Its
fleet included the Fokker F-100 and the modern Airbus A319 and Airbus A320.
TAM Transportes Aereos Meridionais S.A. was created in 1986 with the
incorporation of Votec. Initially called Brasil Central, it operated in the
northern and central-west regions of the country. In the same year, the
company won a concession to operate from Guarulhos International Airport,
transforming Brasil Central into TAM Meridional. As the second largest
national air carrier, it used some of the most modern aircrafts in the world:
Airbus 319, Airbus 320, Airbus 330-200, and Fokker F-100. |
