Forró

From the expression "forrobodó", which means "diversão pagodeira" (dance fun), forró was, truth, parties that ended up becoming a musical genre. Inclusively there are people that say that this name came from the popular balls of the community of english engineers, entitled "For All". Considered also as an ordinary ball and with no class by the old bourgeoisie, the balls with this kind of music earned nicknames like “arrasta-pé”, “bate-coxa” and similar.

The fact is that as time passed and the migration of the people from the Northeast to the big capitals, “forró” became even more popular, receiving several influences and even earning a new denomination: “forró universitário”, a kind of “xote” with romantic lyrics that attracts a legion of young people with steps in couples.

“Pé-de-Serra”, “Universitário” or “Raiz”, this dance is a mark of the people of Northeast and also integrates the show of “A Morena do Brasil”.
