Abril Theatre |
Originally baptized as “Paramount”, Abril Theatre is an important part of the
history of São Paulo’s cultural development. Inaugurated in 1929, the place hosted some movies, inclusively being the first room to promote
spoken films in the entire Latin America. Also seat of musical events, the building received VIPs like Nat King Cole and Louis Armstrong, besides
being the chosen place for the brazilian music festival of “TV Record” in the middle of the 60’s.
In 1969, the
Theatre suffered a major fire that destroyed great part of its
dependencies, making it to be reopened only tem years later, transformed into five small projection rooms. With the support of great companies
that bought it, Abril Theatre was renamed and started to have an infrastructure capable of hosting great spectacles, especially musicals. Abril
Theatre is registered as historic patrimony.
