Banespa Building |
Inspired in New York’s Empire State Building, the Banespa’s building was
constructed in 1936, being considered, during the 40’s, the biggest construction made of concrete in the world, since the constructions in the
USA were made with metallic structures.
Projected by Plínio Botelho do Amaral and changed by company “Camargo &
Mesquita”, the famous building, since the beginning of its history, could be identified due to the luminous logo, in the top of the building.
Although it can’t be considered the highest building of São Paulo, the 36 floored construction is on a point considered as the topographically
highest of the city, allowing a panoramic view of the entire region, including Sé Cathedral and Municipal Market.
Still at “Banespa”, visitors will have the opportunity of knowing a museum, which
has a collection of photos, objects that date from the time of its foundation, besides several newspapers. In the museum, there are 993 objects
and furniture, 1003 paintings of national and international artists, 98 photos and 66 oriental and national carpets, picturing the evolution of
the bank, of the city and the art in general, providing to visitors a trip through time. The official name of the Banespa Building is “edifício
Altino Arantes”.
