Latin America Memorial |
Projected by Oscar Niemeyer and inaugurated in 1989, Latin America Memorial is
considered as one of the biggest and most modern cultural centers of São Paulo. It has the objective of telling the history of the Latin
countries through books, photos and also with unusual ways.
Occupying 78000m², the memorial stays on a set of buildings that separate the
contents in categories. The library includes from “hemeroteca” and “sonoteca”, a collection of videos containing movies and documentaries, to
the theater, with capacity for 1680 people, which hosts events like shows, dance presentations, theatre plays and conventions.
At Salão de Atos, a permanent exhibition can be seen, with paintings of Cândido
Portinari and other known artists. Other great attraction is the enormous mockup of Latin America, where visitors can locate brazilian and
foreign cities. The biggest symbol of the memorial, placed at “Praça Pôr-do-Sol”, is the open hand, made in concrete standing 7 meters tall.
There’s a restaurant and a snack bar, besides being located next to Barra Funda subway station.
