Museu Municipal Tomé Portes del Rei Façade |
Museu Municipal Tomé Portes del Rei is located in the house where Bárbara
Heliodora, wife of Alvarenga Peixoto, lived. It’s a house built in the 18th century, which still preserves the original characteristics. In the
same building operates Secretaria Municipal de Cultura e Turismo (Municipal Secretary of Culture and Tourism).
Its patrimony includes old photos, clothes, paintings and colonial utensils. Some
of the most valuable pieces are "Braço da Balança", where the gold was deposited in the Foundry, and the piano of Bárbara
Heliodora.
In the building there’s also the "Lincoln de Souza" room, which includes books,
letters, drawings and souvenirs. All of them belonged to Lincoln de Souza, journalist born in the city.
