São Joaquim |
The first inhabitants of São Joaquim were portuguese and spanish descendants, who
arrived to Santa Catarina from 1750, coming from Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. It was they who started to build the great farms, which also
served as stop for cattle drivers who took the cattle and other goods to the south and the interior of Brazil.
The region started to receive german and italian immigrants in the end of the
19th century. It was in the same time as São Joaquim passed to be considered as a city, in 1887. |
