The building where Museum of Maranhão's History and Art is located was built in
1836 to serve as residence to the Gomes de Souza family. As years passed by, it had other owners, like Luiz and Arthur de Azevedo, who used the
space to divulge their works.
The patrimony is constituted by pieces, which transmits to the visitors, details of
the epoch, like porcelain objects, glasses, crystals and furniture of Maranhão from the 19th century and beginning of the
20th.
