São João Batista Batista |
São João Batista Church was built in 1665 under orders of governor Ruy Vaz de
Silveira, in neoclassical style. The legend says that, in case a wish was granted, the church would be constructed in thanks to the saint. In
this case, an extra conjugal case should be kept in secrecy, so the deal would be done.
It was restored in 1934, and kept for many years the mortal remains of the
denouncer of Minas Gerais’s rebellion Joaquim Silvério dos Reis. In front of the church, there’s a public square, which formerly had a fountain.
