Inaugurated in 1816, the chapel took some time to be open to the community. It has
traces that reveal the past, by means of richness of the sculptures and objects.
It had several owners until 1939 when Arquidiocese do Maranhão bought it and soon
after sold it again, so a high school could be built. The building is registered at IPHAN and is protected by Estado da Cultura.
