Festa de São Benedito is commemorated in the beginning of August in several cities
of Maranhão. The devotion to the saint in the State is high, especially due to the presence of african descendants, who cultuate the black
saint.
The celebration really mobilizes people. It basically consists of processions in
homage to the saint and circles of Tambor de Crioula. The cities that organize the feast are Alcântara and São Luís.
