Domingos Vieira Cultural Center was created to host exhibits and received this name
in homage to the writer from Maranhão. The patrimony includes elements used in Bumba-Meu-Boi, from clothes to music instruments, besides other
artifacts linked to the culture and folklore of Maranhão.
Among the artists who have exhibited works are João do Farol, Vítor Gonçalves and
João Cupertino. Domingos Vieira Cultural Center has an auditorium, library and souvenir store.
Created in 1971, it started its operations only in 1976, first at Rua Ribeirão.
After changing addresses some times, it established definitively at Rua do Giz, number 205. The historic building has two floors with three
pavements dated from the 19th century.
