| Salvador - Beaches - Itapuă Beach |
The is no doubt about it, the Praia de Itapuă is one of the most well known beaches
of Salvador. In Tupi, Itapuă means “stone that snores” and the place received such a name because there is a rock there that emits sounds when
the tides change.
The beach is protected by a natural barrier of reefs, which makes the water and
with weak waves. On the border, there are loads of coconut trees and the sand in fine and fluffy.
In Itapuă there is a colony of fishermen. May be that is the reason why one of the
most well known images of the place is exactly dozens of small rafts contrasting with the blue of the sky and the sea. It is also the head
quarters of the Projeto Tamar Salvador the protects the turtles that set their eggs in the sand. |
